About the Hostel
O.Ridley's Hostel16 is a place for travelers to meet, spend time together, and experience life here in a communal atmosphere. We hope all of our guests leave with new friendships and experiences that last a lifetime.
Are you wondering what the hostel and the area have to offer? Let us share a few things about that and what you can expect.
- Each accommodation and throughout the indoor spaces, you will find ceiling and floor fans. Like our own personal living space, the hostel does not have air conditioning.
- During the high season from November to April, the weather is generally comfortable with warm daytime temperatures and low-ish humidity. Nights can even feel cool.
- There is a fully equipped open air kitchen for the use of our guests. You will find a full sized refrigerator, five burner gas stove, large toaster oven, microwave oven, electric tea kettle, various sized pots & pans, cooking utensils, plates, bowls, flatware, cups, and glasses.
- Each guest accommodation will have their own plastic storage bin in the kitchen for their non-refrigerated food.
- A beverage station in the indoor dining area includes a water station, drinks fridge, espresso maker, and drip coffee maker.
- Guests in the Dorm and Friends room will share outdoor toilets and hand sink.
- Guests in Dorm, Friends room, and Bungalow Sirena will use the shared outdoor shower with hot & cold water.
- Space is available to securely store surfboards, paddle boards, bikes, etc. however we do not rent these. We can refer you to local providers if you want to rent any of these or similar things.
- O.Ridley's Hostel16 shares outdoor space with O.Ridley’s Tortuga Bar next door which means guests of the bar and guests of the hostel will be together – playing cornhole, billiards, or otherwise hanging out.
- The treetop bungalows Sirena and Colibri are both second floor units that sit above some of the common area where billiards and cornhole are played. If you would like to stay in one of these bungalows, please be aware of the stairs and the common area activities.
- Guests of the hostel will have access to all O.Ridley’s events at no additional cost and may also have access to the bar area during hours where it is not open to the public.
- We do not have a swimming pool, but we are just 2 blocks from the ocean and the lagoon.
- During your stay, you will meet our two rescue dogs Lillie and Dan wandering about the property. Because this is their home, we do not allow guests to bring their own pets.
- The minimum age to stay at O.Ridley's Hostel16 is 16 years old and we require at least one adult in each accommodation with a child under 18.
- We live in a tropical climate here in Barra de Potosí. We do our very best to maintain cleanliness in the hostel but you can expect to encounter insects, crabs, iguanas, or other critters during your stay. It's part of the adventure.
- We are in a residential area of the village so it’s important that we respect our neighbors who may have school aged children or need to rise early for work. Around 10ish at night, we try to adjust our volume of music and conversation to a reasonably low level. We post hours of availability for the billiards and cornhole as a friendly reminder in consideration of our neighbors.
- Barra de Potosí is authentic Mexican fishing village - you will hear roosters, dogs, cats, tree frogs, music, cars, trucks, motorcycles, delivery truck jingles, street hawkers, laughing children, singing adults, and much more!
- If you want immersive Mexican experience, you can find it here. High quality earplugs are a good idea when first adapting to the village but if you are particularly sensitive to noise or need perfect sleeping conditions, this may not be the place for you.
For us, this place is paradise! We hope you'll want to come for a stay with us and experience it for yourself as a part of our Hostel16 community.
